Jean-Georges is the perfect spot for a classy ladies lunch. I came here for a reunion lunch with my best friends in September 2014. The venue is spacious with high ceilings and cozy seatings. The decor is simple, elegant and timeless. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. They catered not only to our dietary needs but also our photography needs. The timing of serving was on point. Each waiter served exactly at the same time and in the same rhythm. It was almost like a dance. The service was professional and consistent.

Food

The meal began with some choices of bread and a pot of herbal tea for myself. An excellent way to begin the day. Next we were served a bit of watermelon with a hint of spiciness that explodes in your mouth, the contrast between the sweet and spicy was very refreshing and light. The corn filled croquette and strawberry gazpacho were wonderful starters that opened our appetite.

As an appetizer, I ordered the corn filled pesto ravioli with fresh heirloom tomatoes. It was light and savory with a hint of sourness from the tomatoes that acted as an appetite enhancer.

I ordered the suckling pork confit as my main entree with beets. It was all about the crispy skin, the texture was almost that of harden sugar, but went exceptionally well with the soft insides. The beets were refreshing compliments. This dish overall was not too heavy and on the lighter end for red meats. The dish was good, but not mind blowing or amazing. I only really enjoyed the crust and beets, but the interior was ordinary and nothing special.

My favorite was probably the chocolate tasting. It was the perfect amount—light and not too sweet. It came with the milk chocolate custard—a soft gooey chocolate mouse feel with smoked salt meringue and candied orange. Next was the white chocolate with sorbet that was refreshing and very gentle. I loved it. Lastly, the warm chocolate cake went very well with the vanilla bean ice cream—warm dark chocolate melting in your mouth.

Price $$$$

For a full comfortable meal expect about $80 per person after tax and tip, which includes two dishes, dessert and a drink. The tasting menu is $158 per person. An appetizer, one entree and dessert was more than enough food for one. I think the tasting menu would have been too much for lunch and put me straight to sleep.

Reservations

I don't believe they accept walk-ins, I'd highly recommend reservations at least 2 weeks in advance or more.
