*Update: I have been here 3 times now, most recently in March 2016. The quality is still there, however, I felt that Nakazawa seemed less enthused and almost bored/irritated with the routine. He just doesn't seem as passionate as he once was. Nonetheless if you have never been, it's definitely still worth it.
After watching Jiro's Dream of Sushi, I began an epic journey of finding my own dream of sushi. Naturally, Jiro's apprentice, Nakazawa, would be a suitable choice. After a few nights of clicking at the stroke of midnight, I succeeded in making a reservation 30 days before. Located in West Village, this quaint little restaurant served some of the freshest fish I've ever had. The decor was much more modern and trendy than I expected. It was a bit overly westernized for my liking. I came here for the first time in May 2014.
Nakazawa's performance was flawless and impeccable. The scallop was prepared right then and there, I felt the scallop jump while in my mouth. One of the best pieces, don't be frightened. After the 20th piece, I was stuffed, more sushi than I could want in one sitting. At last he served the famous Tamago. A light and fresh sweet ending.
The spectacular was entertaining, it was like a broadway show of sushi, where Nakazawa showcases his craft for the art of sushi making. If you plan to try this restaurant, as you should, be prepared to make reservations at least 1 month in advance. Although reservations are tough to get, if you patiently refresh at 11:58-11:59pm and click right as it becomes 12:00am, you'll eventually get it. Making the reservation on a Friday or Saturday evening also increases your chance as many people are out that night.
The sushi was excellent, fresh and high quality. The overall experience was great and I highly recommend it.
