Claudette is located in Greenwich Village next to Washington Square Park on 5th avenue. This quaint restaurant is spacious and cozy at the same time. It is the perfect brunch spot on a beautiful day with plenty of natural lighting and open seating. It is especially beautiful during the summer and September when the weather permits semi-outside seating.
Food
To start we ordered the spiced yogurt with fresh fruits. The light yogurt with a hint of cinnamon/spices was unique and subtle. The understated savoriness of the yogurt balanced the fruits. It was a refreshing way to start the meal. As the entree, we ordered the tomato benedict and harissa baked eggs with a side of homemade pork sausage. The tomato of the benedict added a new dimension to the traditional eggs benedict dish by slightly mellowing out the flavors. The egg/hollandaise sauce combination can sometimes be overbearing, but the tomatoes helped tone down its heaviness. Next, we had the harissa baked eggs with chickpeas. Again, prior to trying this dish, I thought it would be heavy, but it was surprisingly light and tasty. We also ordered a side of the homemade pork sausage. The sausage was lightly seasoned and high quality. It didn't taste like nasty god knows what-is-in-there-type of sausage. If you know what I mean. It was well seasoned and authentic.
Ambiance
I love the ambiance. It has that countryside south of France feel. The doors were wide open with semi-outside seating. It's located directly on 5th avenue where the street corner is very wide and clean.
Quality
I think the quality of the food here was really great.
Price
Approximately $30-$40 including tip and tax for a full meal. I think they are reasonably priced and comparable to most places of the same level.
Wait / Reservation
Very easy to obtain. Just go on open table.
